TWD: Coffee Break Muffins

This week’s Tuesdays With Dorie selection, Coffee-Break Muffins, was actually the very first thing I made from Baking, over two years ago. I remember being anxious to start making things from the book and wanting to make something I had all the ingredients on hand for, but was also not just your basic muffin or cookie. I drink quite a bit of coffee and luckily Josh does too. On one of our early dates, we were going to a concert and when Josh picked me up, he brought me a cup of coffee, since it was going to be kind of a late night for a weeknight. I was charmed with the gesture and pleased to learn he understood the importance of coffee early in our relationship. Suffice to say, these muffins were a big hit both times I made them. I don’t know why it took me two years to get to this simple and delicious treat the second time.

I jazzed the muffins up a bit with some toffee chips and some milk crumbs, which were leftover from another recipe I made last weekend and seemed like an appropriate addition (though we actually are black coffee drinkers in this household). This recipe rated an 8 for Deliciousness and a 2 for Effort, for an EDR of 4. Many thanks to Rhiani of Chocoholic Anonymous for a yummy selection. You should be able find the recipe on Rhiani’s site and visit the TWD site to see what the other bakers thought of these goodies.

M. learned the importance of coffee in keeping me happy early on. We were on our first trip to Paris 4 months after we met and he read the manual for the camera before we went out for coffee. I almost killed him. He was amused by the whole experience (but accepts that getting coffee into me first thing is a wise strategy).

Your muffins are adorable (and an EDR of 4 is pretty great, isn't it?)

Your muffins look great, and the papers and mug are so cute. I'm a daily coffee drinker - my husband is not, but he knows how important it is to me, and that helps the relationship!

I'm intrigued by the milk crumbs! They do sound like a good combo with coffee.

I've never heard of milk crumbs but they sound like an interesting addition and not too hard to make. I don't even drink coffee but loved these muffins.

How sweet that he brought you coffee! We are big coffee drinkers too - I drink mine sweetened and David drinks his with milk only. I should bake these muffins - they have had such rave reviews!

I had to laugh because your other half understood the importance of coffee in your relationship. My husband is a HUGE coffee drinker and I love the AROMA of coffee but usually have a tad bit of coffee with my Hazelnut cream and sugar. You just cringed didn't you? Sorry =).

I drank a whole cup of coffee hot chocolate (made with 5 T. of espresso powder) AND a whole coffee muffin toasted. I couldn't quit talking or gritting my teeth for at least 3 hours. Suffice it to say, I am sticking to tea. Much easier on my husband. (laughing)

Your coffee break muffins look perfect and your mug is too cute!

Milk crumbs were new to me until a few weeks ago. They would be a perfect addition for these muffins.

Wow, these look so plump and nice. Love the wrappers, too! Josh is sweet, those sorts of things win a girl's heart, don't they?
