TWD: Sugar-Topped Molasses Cookies

This week’s Tuesdays With Dorie treat is Sugar-Topped Molasses Cookies. Since I had ever-so-much to say about the chestnut cake last week, I will keep this one short and sweet. Besides, since we have been allowed to post out of order this month, I have seen these on many blogs (I think I may be one of the last TWD bakers to make them) and I think everyone knows how good they are now. Spicy, molassesy, and crunchy from the sugar – an excellent treat to fill your cookie jar during the cool months.

This recipe rated a 7.5 for Deliciousness and 2 for Effort, giving it an EDR of 2.75. Many thanks to Pamela of Cookies with Boys for choosing a great seasonal cookie. Drop by Pamela’s site to read her TWD post and for the recipe, which she kindly posted last week, and stay for the adorable photos of her boys and some nice healthy recipes. And to see what the other TWD bakers made this week, visit the TWD blogroll.

I LOVED these. Made them last week and am making them to take with us on Thanksgiving when we visit family. Yours look fabulous! I made the cran apple crisp this week, so good!

Your cookies are beautiful! I love that you rolled them in raw sugar -- it makes them sparkle. They're tasty cookies, aren't they? I haven't made the chestnut cake yet. I keep putting it off, so next week is the week for that! I need to go back and read your post before I make it.

I simply love who the sugar dots show on your cookies! They look so much more whimsical that way! Bravo, Margot!

I love the sugar you rolled these in.

I almost went with a large grained sugar.

Margot - those cookies look perfect! Now you must tell me, which do you prefer - Pure Dessert ginger cookies or these?

These look too perfect to eat. You are a professional cookie baker, I swear. Love it!

How beautiful with the sanding sugar! They almost look like little porcupines. I also made them this week, so you aren't the last one. That's how I feel about the crisp.

Hello Margot!

My name is Hilary and I’m writing to you on behalf of C&H® Sugar. Everyone knows the holiday season can be a busy time of year, and we’d like to give you a head start on your holiday baking and gift planning by offering you a sweet treat!

Each week a select group of food bloggers will receive a $20 gift card to use toward purchasing ingredients to make holiday goodies and gifts. All we ask is that you make something fabulous from our website (http://chsugar.com/giftideas/index.html), and within a week post about it on your blog. Also, make sure to mention that you received a $20 gift card from us, to help with the expenses, and include a link to C&H http://chsugar.com/giftideas/index.html in your post!

To help you out, I have a fun and inexpensive blog post idea for you--host a cookie swap! Invite your friends, swap cookies, take pictures, and tell us what you did to make it special. Short on time? Swap homemade cookie dough instead!

If you’re interested in participating, send me an e-mail with your full name and mailing address and I’ll be sure to get the gift card to you as soon as possible. I can’t wait to read your post to see how you spent your gift card and what delectable creations you’ve made!

Thanks!

Hilary

Your cookies look so beautiful with the large sugar crystals all over them! I didn't have anything but granulated so I didn't get the same effect (I made these this week, too) though I think they are gorgeous the way you made them. I really loved these, though I am certainly planning on making Alice Medrich's ginger cookies this weekend and comparing the two.

You've got some serious sugar going on with those cookies. Sparkly and special!

Did you decide to do the C&H sugar deal? Interesing....

I absolutely love how your cookies are covered in sparkly sugar! You couldn't even see the sugar on mine after I baked them. These were delicious cookies and the more blogs I see them on the more I wish I still had some left :)
