TWD: Toasted Almond Scones

This week’s Tuesdays With Dorie selection is Toasted Almond Scones. On Sunday morning I gave Josh a choice of three things for breakfast: cereal, waffles, or these scones. I was surprised that he didn’t select the option you can (appropriately) cover in maple syrup, though pleased, since I wanted to try these. I would have made them Monday if he had chosen waffles, but the sooner the better. These were terrific scones. I admit, I thought it seemed a little fussy to grind some of the almonds and then chop some – perhaps I’m just lazy. It was totally worth it, though, since the chopped almonds gave the flaky scones some nice texture and added a lot of flavor. These scones were yummy plain and also with a dab of apricot preserves.

This recipe rated a 7.5 for Deliciousness and a 3.25 for Effort, for an EDR of 2.3. Many thanks to Mike of Living Out West for a delightful selection. You can find the recipe here on Mike’s site and visit the TWD site for more scones.

Haha, I probably would have chosen the waffles too, just so I could have maple syrup. Also, if you're lazy then so am I, because I definitely found the multiple almond preps a bit of a pain.

They LOOK worth the effort! Glad they were requested - and I agree, food processor for 1/2 cup of nuts? That's nuts! :) Beautiful scones - thanks so much for baking with me this week!

They look perfect! The toasted almond flavor was so good that I think it was worth it to mess with the almonds.

These look wonderful. I love almonds. I like scones too but I don't make them too often because of their high calorie content :o)

I have to admit that when I saw this pick I was a little meh, but you make them sound delicious and worth the effort. On the to do list they go.!

Thanks for asking about my wrist. It's now 95% and I'm back to baking and hopefully commenting and blogging more, but not so much that I'm trapped in a splint for another 3 months! Thanks for hanging with me! xo

I would also have chosen waffles :) But that's because I'm deprived of them as the hubs doesn't really eat breakfasty foods. He'd rather have a hamburger at 11am than eggs and a biscuit.

Anyway, your scones look fab and I'm glad they were enjoyed!

How did you make those come out looking exactly like the cookbook photo? They look amazing! OK, I would have picked waffles myself, but I did like these scones. I have a miniprep food processor (it only holds 2 cups) for little jobs like this. Every year or so I think I should give it to charity because I don't use it all that often, but it comes in handy for these types of things.
