TWD: Tiramisu Cake

Tuesdays With Dorie begins the month of May with Tiramisu Cake, which is exactly what it sounds like: tiramisu made with a spongy cake rather than with the traditional ladyfingers as the base. I was going to make a quarter recipe in my trusty four-inch cake pans, but Mr. Penpen thought it was blasphemous to make such a small quantity of a dessert he was destined to like, so I made a half batch in my new six-inch pans (which I accidentally tried to pay for with my library card). He did have a valid point, as he consumes an estimated eighty percent of the cake around here and tiramisu is invariably delicious.

I am pleased I ended up going with the larger size for two reasons. 1) Making it resulted in us eating dinner at 10 o’clock on Sunday. I underestimated how long it would take me to put everything together and frost the cake (I’m not the most adept cake-decorator) while simultaneously cooking dinner. 2) Mr. Penpen loved it! He said it would definitely go in his TWD top five, which makes me happy. This recipe gets a 10 for Deliciousness and a 4 for Effort, giving it an EDR of 2.5.

Many thanks to Megan of My Baking Adventures for choosing this top five dessert. You can find the recipe on Megan’s website, in addition to lots of other great dessert and dinner ideas. She has an outstanding kitchen output on her main site, plus a supplementary blog devoted to brownies. How awesome is that? And be sure to check out the TWD blogroll to see what the other bakers thought of this treat.

Woo hoo! One of his top 5? That's high praise in my book. And you made it look so good!

I tried to use my Costco card to pay for stuff at the market once. The cashier didn't think it was as funny as I did ~

Your cake looks fabulous! I'm glad you went with the larger version, too :) So glad everyone loved it. Um, I totally wish we could buy kitchen supplies with our library cards...that would be very convenient!

Hee hee! I've tried to buy things with my library card before, too. Odd how that doesn't work, huh?

I so want little 6" cake pans. TWD seems to be feeding my very bad kitchen gadget habit in a big way! :)

I love your cake Margot! I really want to get some 6-inch cake pans but I've never seen them anywhere. Maybe I should check online. It took me forever to assemble this cake too! Glad it was worth the effort!

It looks great! My husband sometimes questions my logic too - it's good that you listened to him and made a larger cake!

If only the library card would work like that sometimes. I can't wait to try my mini cake pans out - once I get up the courage to do some math!

The library card -funny!
Your cake is beautiful - it looks so downy. I just got six in pans for Christmas - aren't they great! I end up eating most of the cake around here, so 6 in at least keeps things within reason.

Looks delish - love the cute little plates too. Glad you both enjoyed!

My guys will never agree to those mini portions either...but someday when they are all grown up, I am going minis! Your cake looks lovely, and the post was fun to read!

I wish we could earn points or miles with the library card! Oooh...what I could be earning! Anyway, the cake looks great! Love the cocoa on top. Glad it was a big hit!

Be sure to let me know if you find a kitchenware store that accepts library cards...I've got quite the list of things I "need".

Your cake looks delish! I love chocolate and coffee together. Or apart, but they're definitely good together.

Beautiful cake. Love the marbled effect of the soak. Looks great.

Oh, I just love reading about desserts that win a "10" for deliciousness. And a "Top 5"? That's even better! Your cake is lovely; I need some smaller pans, I think. When I have to downsize a layer cake all I have is loaf pans.

Like the small pan results. I, too, put this up very high on my list...maybe bumping out my previous fave.
