TWD: Chocolate Spice Quickies
Happy Tuesday! This week the Tuesdays With Dorie Bakers made Chocolate Spice Quickies. I don’t think she made anything specifically called “quickies,” but the name of these cookies reminds me of something from my mom’s seventies-era cookbooks – there seemed to be a lot of goofily named recipes in them. I don’t know if I’ve ever made cookie dough in my food processor before, but Dorie is right: it is quick. This dough seemed a lot less crumbly and easier to form into logs (and subsequently slice) than other sable-esque recipes, which was quite nice.
When Josh saw the cookies lined up on the baking sheet, he commented that they looked like World Peace Cookies. They do resemble the sublime World Peace Cookies, but these are a much milder, softer chocolate cookie. They are still yummy, though. They do not have the crave-worthy quality that many cookies have, so I would probably not make them again. This batch certainly will not go to waste, though. This recipe received a 7 for Deliciousness and a 2.5 for Effort, for an EDR of 2.8. Jessica of My Baking Heart was our hostess this week and you can find the recipe here on her site.
Also? I just couldn’t get excited about last week’s TWD selection Cornmeal Fruit Loaf and didn’t make it until last Wednesday, due to my lack of enthusiasm. Funnily enough, I ended up loving it and couldn’t stop eating it! You can find the recipe for the Cornmeal Fruit Loaf here on Engineer Baker.
I like the idea of making cookie dough in the food processor. They look tasty. My house is dessert free at the moment and I wouldn't mind eating one of these!
ReplyDeleteToo funny that J knows the name of the cookies...my guys would not ever remember that, they always just say, "Those cookies that have this or that or look like this or that or the ones we had here or there or took here or there," and I am supposed to figure it out. Mark thought these were addicting, he kept going back for more. My main cookie eater, Matt, is sadly off at college so he's not here to eat the TWD this year...that does not mean I will not be sending them down to IU, however. Hope you had a great holiday weekend.
ReplyDeleteI skipped both of these recipes, but I've had so many that I thought I wouldn't like and discovered that I did like them. It's great that the cornmeal fruit loaf was one of those recipes for you!
ReplyDeleteI had the same experience with the cornmeal loaf. A surprisingly good treat. The cookies were definitely missing some flavour. On to next week!
ReplyDeleteThey look very uniform and tasty! Im glad you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteThe best part of the cookies was the little nuggets of almond.
ReplyDeleteThe loaf was a surprise, wasn't it?
Sorry these weren't a huge hit for you; they look fabulous - thanks for baking along with me this week! :)
ReplyDeleteI still have to try the cornmeal loaf. Every time I read a post about it, I know I'll love it. but now I'm day dreaming about world peace cookies...
ReplyDeleteI loved the cornmeal fruit loaf too but found the cookies just OK. Glad you had a chance to make the fruit loaf.
ReplyDeleteI agree about making cookie dough in the food processor - so easy! Actually I love making almost anything in my food processor, I just hate cleaning it afterward :) The cookies were a hit here, though definitely more popular with ice cream.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get excited about the cornmeal loaf either but it seems to have been well received by many so I added it to my to-do list recently.
