TWD: Chockablock Cookies
When I saw the name of this week’s Tuesdays With Dorie recipe, Chockablock Cookies, I immediately assumed they were a chocolate-based cookie packed with goodies. They aren’t so much a chocolate-based cookie but an anything or everything you want cookie, as the recipe gives a loose guideline of the fruits and nuts to use - plus chocolate, oats, and coconut. Honestly, I think the best part about these cookies will be seeing what kind of variations the fabulously talented bakers of Tuesdays With Dorie came up with. Not to say they aren’t good cookies, at least the few bites I’ve had (I didn’t make them until last night due to the backlog of treats. Not procrastination). Plus some dough, it was really good cookie dough. My mix consisted of chopped up dark chocolate, dried cherries, and walnuts. I skipped the coconut since Josh doesn’t like it. The recipe calls for molasses, but I used Lyle’s Golden Syrup for the liquid gooey binder instead. I like molasses, but I also like to entertain myself by trying out new ingredients – very exciting, I know.
Josh brought a stash of cookies to work with him today and reported that they rated a 7.5 for Deliciousness. I gave them 2.5 for Effort, for an EDR of 3. Many thanks to Mary of Popsicles and Sandy Feet for a fun selection. You can find the recipe here on Mary’s site and click here to see more cookies.
Yours look great! I did sub half of the molasses with agave nectar, worked just fine. I did include the coconut and you would never know it. Just added really nice chew!
ReplyDeleteYay - someone else who used golden syrup! I've had a can of it sitting in my pantry for over a year and broke it out for the first time with this recipe. I'm going to find more recipes to use it, as I love the chew it gave the cookies.
ReplyDeleteI thought these would be chocolate cookies too. I need to try some golden syrup because I keep reading about it!
ReplyDeleteYour cookies look perfect. I bet Josh's co-workers love you.

i also used walnuts and cherries--yum! i would love to try these again w/lyles golden syrup--i have some but haven't used it yet!
ReplyDeleteI love reading about all the variations this week too!
ReplyDeletethose look great, i dont know what golden syrup is but im assuming its less overwhelming that molasses?
ReplyDeleteI subbed golden syrup for the molasses, as well. It's not that I don't like molasses, but it seemed a weird combination. I found the golden syrup very mild; it made a nice dough. I love the dark chocolate/cherry/walnut combo, too.
ReplyDeleteNancy corrected me when I called them a chocolate cookie in my blog post, because even though they have chocolate IN them, that did not make them a chocolate cookie...in her opinion. LOL. If it has chocolate anywhere NEAR it, I'm not eating it b/c it is a chocolate cookie in my opinion. However, the guys here were inhaling them and loved, loved, loved them...yours looked like perfection.
ReplyDeleteYour cookies sound great...I like that flavor combination. Thanks so much for baking along with me this week!
ReplyDeleteGreat cookies and photos... you have the cookie closeup down pat!
ReplyDeleteI think I just put too much stuff in mine. Ah, well. I think next time less fruit.
ReplyDeleteYours look great.
These sound great to me. I've never tried the golden sryup. I'll check it out!
ReplyDeleteyour cookies look great!!!! So glad they were enjoyed by the guys in the office!
ReplyDeleteI like to try new ingredients too, though I've never used Lyle's Golden Syrup. One of these days... I used ingredients I don't like so these wouldn't tempt me, but my mom was a huge fan!
